Wilding Park Stormwater Facility Swale Repair

This project will address issues with stormwater treatment from four existing biofiltration swales serving the Wilding Park Estates subdivision. Two swales will be replaced with treatment cartridges installed in catch basins and manholes, one will be upgraded to a “wet” biofiltration swale design, and one will have water re-routed to another existing stormwater facility.

About the project

tag

When the Wilding Park Estates subdivision was constructed in 1997, stormwater treatment was provided by four biofiltration swales located in the adjacent Wilding Natural Area. The design and location of these facilities limit their effectiveness and the county’s ability to perform required maintenance.

This project will:

  • install a curb inlet, manhole, treatment cartridges, and stormwater pipe within NE 105th Circle.
  • install treatment cartridges in two curb inlets near the west end of NE Wilding Road.
  • convert a swale near NE Wilding Road and NE 65th Court to an improved “wet” biofiltration swale design
  • re-route flow from a swale near NE Saint John’s Road to an existing stormwater wetland treatment facility.

Treatment cartridges are large, replaceable filters that contain material designed to remove dirt and pollution from stormwater. They can be installed within curb inlets, manholes, or special vaults.

Biofiltration swales are long, narrow grass strips that filter stormwater by running it across and through the grass. A wet biofiltration swale uses different plant species that perform better than grass swales when located in wetland buffers and shaded areas.

This repair project is included in the 2024-2029 Stormwater Capital Plan adopted by the Clark County Council.
