Northeast 99th Street (I-5 west to Hazel Dell Avenue) Water Quality

This project will expand below-grade stormwater structures to filter stormwater runoff from Northeast 99th Street between Interstate I-5 and Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue. The goal of this project is to provide water quality treatment before the runoff is discharged to Suds Creek.

The project treats polluted stormwater from nearly a quarter-mile high-traffic area along Northeast 99th Street, between I-5 and Hazel Dell Avenue, that is currently discharged directly to the headwaters of Suds Creek without water treatment.

Suds Creek is a tributary of Salmon Creek, which is subject to multiple Water Cleanup Plans, which are water quality improvement plans to identify and clean up polluted water in accordance with the Clean Water Act.  The Suds Creek basin has been identified as a priority for addition of water quality treatment infrastructure, following retrofit studies by the Clean Water division.

This project will retrofit below-grade catch basins/curb inlets along Northeast 99th Street, between the eastbound 99th Street to southbound I-5 onramp and Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue. This will provide water quality treatment before runoff from the roadway is discharged to Suds Creek.  This work will require minor sidewalk and pavement removal and replacement to install larger below-grade stormwater filtration structures while keeping stormwater pipes in the same locations.
