Conditions vary across Clark County; commuters should use extreme caution on icy streets

 

Vancouver, WA – Clark County Public Works has crews out early Monday morning to improve difficult driving conditions following snow, sleet and freezing rain.

Crews are spreading gravel so drivers can get more traction as they head to work following the holiday weekend.

Public Works also is using snow plows, where feasible, to push snow and slush to the side. In some areas, the wintry accumulation isn’t deep enough for plows to be effective.

Conditions vary across Clark County, from slush in some areas to a solid sheet of ice in others.

Areas that have particularly difficult driving conditions include portions of east Clark County outside Camas and Washougal and the Mount Vista area, near Washington State University Vancouver.

Clark County is responsible for maintaining nearly 2,700 lane miles of county roads, roughly the driving distance between Vancouver and Atlanta, Sanding trucks and other storm responders will focus on major thoroughfares, not residential streets.

County residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel. Commuters should slow down, plan for longer travel times and allow plenty of distance between them and other vehicles on icy streets.

Winter weather has prompted Waste Connections of Washington to cancel garbage and recycling collection for Monday.
