Vancouver, WA – Road crews continue to respond to snowy and icy roads from Wednesday's snowstorm that blanketed the region.

Clark County Public Works is spreading rock and salt on hills, curves and other trouble spots following the brief but intense snowstorm that snarled traffic in parts of the Portland-Vancouver area.

Waste Connections has canceled Thursday's collection of garbage, recyclables and yard debris. The company intends to phone its customers with information about revised curbside collection. Information also will be posted on Waste Connections website: www.wcnorthwest.com.

Felida, Salmon Creek and other urban areas north of Vancouver appear to have the most accumulation. Relatively little additional snow and ice has built up since it stopped snowing Wednesday night. Road conditions vary, from packed snow in some areas to only a heavy dusting in others.

County crews will continue to provide whatever response is needed, including spraying deicer where there is significant ice buildup. Road crews may not do much plowing in some areas because of the relatively small accumulations.

Residents are urged to travel only if necessary. Drivers should slow down and allow extra distance between vehicles for turning and stopping.

Specific problems, such as fallen trees or limbs blocking roads outside city limits, can be reported to Public Works at (360) 397-2446. Downed power lines should be reported to Clark Public Utilities at (360) 992-8000.

More information on the county’s winter weather preparation and response is available on the county’s website at clark.wa.gov/public-works/winter-snow-and-ice.
