Vancouver, WA – Two more neighborhood parks will be built this summer to provide additional recreation within easy walking distance of nearby residents.

County Manager Mark McCauley this week awarded a $934,700 contract to Robertson & Olson Construction Inc. of Camas to build Sorenson Neighborhood Park in the Felida area and Tower Crest Neighborhood Park in the East Minnehaha area.

Construction is expected to begin in July and wrap up this fall, before the start of rainy weather.

Sorenson Neighborhood Park will be built on a 4.8-acre site east of Northwest 26th Avenue at Northwest 109th Street. The existing parcel includes open fields and scattered trees. The completed park will include play equipment in age-differentiated areas, a half basketball court, picnic tables and benches, wood chip paths and assorted landscaping.

Tower Crest Neighborhood Park will be built on a heavily forested 2.9-acre site south of Northeast 54th Street at Northeast 63rd Avenue. The completed park will include play equipment in age-differentiated areas, picnic tables and benches, wood chip paths and assorted landscaping. The project was designed to emphasize the area’s existing vegetation and character.

Funding for Sorenson and Tower Crest neighborhood parks will come from park impact fees, which are collected on residential construction to help pay for additional parks to serve a growing population.

Once construction is complete, Clark County will have built 30 parks since voters created the Greater Clark Parks District in 2005. The district encompasses the urban unincorporated area outside the city of Vancouver.

Clark County needs to build four more neighborhood parks ‒ Kelley Meadows, Kozy Kamp, Otto Brown and Salmon Creek Community Club ‒ and two community parks ‒ Curtin Creek and Pleasant Valley ‒ to finish the Greater Clark Parks District projects.
