Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County residents can safely dispose of sensitive materials at a free document shredding event this month. The event is 10 am to 1 pm Saturday, Sept. 22, at Salmon Creek Park & Ride, 1112 NE 136th St.

“This event is intended only for documents with personal information, such as phone numbers, Social Security numbers and bank account information,” said Jill Krumlauf, Clark County Public Health outreach specialist. Examples of such documents include financial statements, invoices, medical bills, pay stubs and tax records.

Each person is limited to two banker boxes, or file storage boxes, of documents to shred. Participants should not bring receipts, office paper, magazines, junk mail or other documents that do not reveal their identity or contain personal information. Most of these other materials can be recycled in curbside recycling carts.

All shredded materials from the event will be recycled. Residents are reminded that documents shredded at home can be taken to the transfer station for recycling. Shredded paper should not be put out for curbside recycling because the pieces are too small for the sorting equipment.
