Clark County Public Health has submitted its request for a Phase 2 variance to Washington Secretary of Health John Wiesman. If approved, the variance would allow the county to move into Phase 2 of the state’s reopening plan.

Gov. Jay Inslee announced Tuesday new criteria that allow larger counties to apply for variances to move into Phase 2 of his four-phased Safe Start Washington plan. Clark County Public Health completed the application process and submitted the request this afternoon.

Secretary Wiesman will now review the variance request and make a determination in the coming days. Clark County is not yet approved for Phase 2 and does not have an anticipated start date for the next phase.

Clark County Public Health does not have the authority to grant exceptions to allow individual businesses or industries to enter the next phase early.

For now, Clark County remains in Phase 1. Residents and businesses should continue to follow the Phase 1 guidance outlined by the governor. Phase 2 guidance is also available on the governor’s website. Local businesses can refer to this guidance to prepare for reopening, however, they should not begin offering services until the county is moved into Phase 2.
