Vancouver, WA – Many seniors prefer to stay in their current home as they age. But when circumstances make that difficult or unworkable, seniors are faced with unexpected decisions.

Learn about key topics seniors should consider when making housing decisions during the Tuesday, Aug. 16, meeting of the Commission on Aging.

The 4:30 p.m. meeting will be in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. It is open to the public.

The speaker will be Sherri Adams, a Seniors Real Estate Specialist in Washington and Oregon since 1977 and broker since 1980. As a senior specialist, her experience includes a wide array of financial, legal, property and personal services, from estate planning to downsizing.

Adams will address the following topics: why a senior might want to sell and move elsewhere; home adaptations; meeting healthcare and other needs; financial considerations; legal issues; and selling a current home.

The August 16 discussion is the seventh of 11 meetings this year focused on housing for older people. Research shows that 87 percent of people prefer to retire in place and will need accessible, affordable housing.
