Vancouver, Wash. – Socialization is a basic human need. Unfortunately, with the number of seniors who live alone, isolation is not uncommon. Learn about socialization for older adults and long-term care options with opportunities for engagement in Southwest Washington at the Tuesday, Oct. 17, meeting of the Commission on Aging.
The 4:30 p.m. meeting will be in the sixth-floor Hearing Room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. It is open to the public.
Judy Canter, a licensed independent clinical social worker, will discuss how isolation affects the brain and spirit as well as retirement and caregiving challenges in relation to socialization.
The Oct. 17 discussion is the eighth of nine meetings this year focused on supportive services, especially for people 50 and older. Research reveals that 87 percent of people prefer to retire in place and will need a variety of services to remain in their home as long as possible.
