The Clark County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit duties include the enforcement of state and local boating rules and regulations, investigation of boating accidents, water search and rescue operations, identifying and/or removal of navigational hazards, and addressing vessel operation complaints and concerns within the county. Marine deputies also work closely with local U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and U.S. Power Squadrons to provide boating education to boaters in local metro area.

The marine unit encourages all boaters to follow four simple rules for safe boating:

  1. Take a boating safety course - It’s a fact, educated boaters are safer boaters! The unit works with the local US Coast Guard Auxiliary and US Sail & Power Squadrons to present a basic boating class every fourth Saturday of each month. Sign up for a class by calling 564.397.2106 or emailing ccsomarine@clark.wa.gov.
  2. Always wear a life jacket while boating - It’s simple, life jackets saves lives. Wear It! Most all drowning victims would be alive today had they simply been wearing a life jacket. Learn more about life jackets.
  3. Pledge to not drink and boat! - Alcohol greatly increases your risk in being involved in a boating accident. Understand the danger. More information about boating under the influence.
Take the pledge to make good decisions by not drinking and boating.
  4. Get a free vessel safety check annually - Make sure you and your boat are prepared and properly equipped before the boating season. Safety is the key to safe boating. Request a vessel safety check online or contact us at ccsomarine@clark.wa.gov.
