Venersborg Bridge (#217) will be closed beginning Monday, Sept. 11, closing Northeast Risto Road to through traffic. The closure is scheduled to last no more than 20 working days (through Oct. 6). Exact closure start and end dates are weather dependent and subject to change. The closure will allow for work to strengthen the bridge and ultimately remove the existing weight restriction.
Artists’ reception scheduled for Friday, Sept. 1
Vancouver, Wash. – The Rebecca Anstine Gallery is currently featuring an exhibit of artwork from local artists Ken Spurlock and Kevin Drake.
The work will be on display through November. The gallery is on the sixth floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. It is open 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday.
Clark County Public Health recently determined that a person associated with Minnehaha Elementary School has been diagnosed with infectious tuberculosis (TB).
The person who has TB spent time in Minnehaha Elementary School prior to the beginning of summer break. To protect the person’s privacy, Public Health is not disclosing how the person is associated with the school or additional details about the case.
Clark County Public Health has issued a warning advisory at Vancouver Lake due to elevated levels of cyanotoxins from harmful algae. The warning advisory at Lacamas Lake also remains in place.
Public Health has been monitoring harmful algal blooms at Vancouver Lake since early July. Results from water samples taken from Vancouver Lake on Monday revealed cyanotoxins above the threshold levels recommended by the Washington Department of Health. Warning signs are being placed at public access points at the lake.
Rock Creek Bridge (#96) will be closed beginning Monday, Aug. 28, closing Northeast 152nd Avenue to through traffic. Northeast 279th Street will also be closed to through traffic east from Northeast 182nd Avenue. The closure will allow work to strengthen the bridge and ultimately remove the existing weight restriction. The closure is scheduled to last no more than 20 working days (through Sept. 17). Exact closure start and end dates are weather dependent and subject to change.
The Clark County Council is seeking applicants for five (5) newly added seats on the Clark County Law and Justice Council.
The Law and Justice Council is established by law to help coordinate activities of the local criminal justice agencies and develop a community corrections plan for local and state corrections services in the county.
The Clark County Council has reorganized and reenergized the Clark County Law and Justice Council to include the following representatives:
Vancouver, Wash. – Due to the extreme fire danger, recreational fires will be prohibited throughout unincorporated Clark County effective 12:01 am, Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023.
This recreational fire restriction is in addition to the general outdoor burning prohibition that was implemented on July 1.

UPDATE 8/28: due to extreme heat, the inspection of the bridge at the Gordy Jolma Family Natural Area will be rescheduled. The Aug. 28 inspections of the Highway 99 and I-5 railroad bridges will continue as scheduled. We will post here when we have confirmed a new inspection date for the rescheduled inspection. Several bridges and a tunnel along the county's Chelatchie Prairie Railroad will be inspected the weeks of Aug. 14 and 28. Some of the inspections will result in traffic control on roads under the bridges.

The Clark County Commission on Aging is focusing the remainder of the year on community engagement for people 60 and older. Starting in August, the commission will host a three-part speaker series with the Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington (AAADSW). The series will explore ways they can help support an engaged and supportive community where individuals, businesses, and community groups understand best practices for engaging with older adults and where there is community-wide awareness of available aging resources.
