Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Historic Preservation Commission recently received an Outstanding Achievement in Historic Preservation Award in the education category from the state of Washington.

Dr. Allyson Brooks, historic preservation officer with the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, presented the annual awards during a ceremony last week in Olympia.

The commission was honored for its success in reaching new and broader audiences regarding the importance of preserving heritage.

Vancouver, Wash. – The Clark County Council invites residents to meet the finalists for county manager during a moderated forum 9-10 am Wednesday, May 30, in the sixth-floor Hearing Room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

The finalists are Rick Rudometkin, county manager of Eddy County, New Mexico, and Shawn Henessee, city administrator for Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Vancouver, Wash. – The primitive dirt trails at Whipple Creek Regional Park will be open to all trail users, effective Saturday, May 19.

Since last November, dirt trails have been open only to hikers and joggers to preserve the trails during the rainy season. Equestrians and mountain bikers could continue using gravel trails at the 300-acre park, off Northeast 179th Street, during wet weather.

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ Each year, the Clark County Auditor’s Office publishes a voters’ pamphlet for the primary election and mails it to all households in Clark County. It includes candidate statements and photographs and local ballot measures with supporting and opposing statements written by citizens.

Vancouver, Wash. – Following the close of business on Friday, May 18, 2018, after candidate forms have been verified for accuracy and qualifications, a lot drawing will be conducted for all races except Precinct Committee Officers to determine the order in which candidate names will appear on the official primary ballot.

The drawing will be held at the Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St., and is open to the public.

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County’s Green Business program will host a free Morning Blend networking event 8-9 am Thursday, May 17, at the Clark County Habitat for Humanity Store, 10811 SE Second St.

Morning Blend is an opportunity for business leaders to network, discuss green business efforts at their workplaces and learn how businesses can reduce their impact on the environment. Members of the public who are interested in learning more about environmental issues related to businesses also are invited to attend.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office, along with local law enforcement agencies, invites the community to attend the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony at 11 am Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the Clark County Public Service Center Plaza, 1300 Franklin St.

Across the nation, there were 129 law enforcement officers killed in line of duty in 2017. The memorial ceremony recognizes their sacrifice in service to the community and public safety. All regional law enforcement agencies will be represented.

Vancouver, Wash. ‒ The Southwest Washington Regional Health Care Advisory Committee will meet 1:30-3:30 pm Thursday, May 24, in the sixth-floor Hearing Room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. The meeting is open to the public.

The meeting will include presentations by representatives of Health Care Authority, Beacon Health Options, Catholic Community Services, Lifeline Connections, Molina Healthcare, Community Health Plan of Washington and Southwest Washington Accountable Community of Health.

A public comment period is scheduled after the presentations.

Vancouver, Wash. – Clark County Public Health is gathering information about an active case of tuberculosis at Skyview High School. The risk of the disease spreading to students, staff and the public is low. Public Health currently has no evidence of additional cases at Skyview High School.

Candidate filing for the 2018 general election is rapidly approaching.

In-person filing will begin at 8 am Monday, May 14, and end at 5 pm Friday, May 18, at the Clark County Elections Office, 1408 Franklin St., Vancouver. Filing fees must be paid by cash or check when filing in person.

Candidates also can file online, from 9 am Monday, May 14, through 4 pm Friday, May 18, at www.clarkvotes.org. Online filers must have valid email addresses and pay any filing fees using Visa or Mastercard.
