Vancouver, Wash. ‒ Each year, the Clark County Auditor’s Office and state publish a voters’ pamphlet for the general election and mail it to all Clark County households. It includes candidate statements and photographs and local ballot measures with supporting and opposing statements written by citizens.
The legislative body placing a measure on the ballot can appoint committees to write supporting and opposing statements. But often, the Elections Office receives only a supporting argument for a measure because the group cannot find anyone to write an opposing statement. If the Elections Office does not receive a supporting or opposing statement, the staff tries to find citizens interested in writing one.
For the 2017 November general election, Elections received a resolution from Fire District 3 for a levy lid lift and a resolution from Washougal for an emergency medical services excess levy.
Neither district could identify anyone to write a statement against its measure. Any county resident who wants to write an opposing statement to one of these two measures can contact Cathie Garber of the Elections Office at 360.397.2345. The deadline to call her is 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7.

“The public is best served by having a local voters’ pamphlet which presents a fair and balanced debate on the merits of local measures submitted for a vote,” said Auditor Greg Kimsey. “We urge anyone interested to help us get their opposing statements to these local measures into the local voters’ pamphlet."
