In November 2014, the voters of Clark County voted to adopt the home rule charter form of government. This change established and defined the separation of the executive and legislative powers in county governance, and it gave registered voters the power to propose initiatives and referenda.
A 15-member Clark County Charter Review Commission was elected in November 2020 to review the county's home rule charter. The commission proposed seven Charter amendments that were placed on the November 2, 2021, general election ballot. Six of the proposed amendments passed and were adopted in November 2021.
