Employee Benefits

Clark County provides regular full-time and part-time employees with a comprehensive benefits package. Some types of employees in some positions and bargaining units might have different benefits. General benefit information for most employees is below.

Medical, vision and dental insurance

Employees and eligible family members may choose from a variety of medical plans -- both traditional and HMOs. In addition, two dental plans are available.

Paid leave

Most regular employees receive 11 observed holidays per year, as well as paid vacation and sick leave. Please refer to individual bargaining contracts.

Flexible spending account

A flexible spending account - an IRS-approved plan - allows employees to be reimbursed for health care and/or dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Life insurance and long-term disability

Clark County provides Group Term life insurance to employees at no premium cost. Additional life insurance may be purchased by employees in increments of $10,000 up to $500,000. Spouse and child coverage also is available. Disability insurance, also paid by the county, provides income protection in the event a non-work-related injury or illness renders an employee unable to work.

Retirement and deferred compensation

Employees participate in the Washington State Public Employees' Retirement Plan. Employees also may elect to participate in a 457 deferred compensation plan.

Transparency in Coverage Machine-Readable Files

The Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor and the Treasury finalized the Transparency in Coverage Rule that requires health insurers to post publicly available machine-readable files that include in-network negotiated payment rates and historical out-of-network charges for covered items and services. The machine-readable files are formatted to allow researchers, regulators, and application developers to more easily access and analyze data. These files can be found here:
