An 18-hole course to be built on undeveloped 40-acre parcel off Northeast 119th Street

Vancouver, WA – The first disc golf course in a Clark County park could open in 2018 on an 40-acre parcel at Hockinson Meadows Community Park.

The Board of County Councilors today approved plans to build an 18-hole course in the park at Northeast 72nd Avenue and Northeast 119th Street.

Vancouver, WA – Clark County is seeking applicants to fill three seats on the five-person Clark County Noxious Weed Control Board.

The weed board advises the Board of County Councilors about managing noxious weeds. State law requires the eradication of Class A noxious weeds, which are non-native species with limited distribution in Washington. For other noxious weeds, the state defers to local officials to determine control and containment requirements.

National Weather Service forecasts 3-5 inches of precipitation during next four days

Vancouver, WA – Clark County Public Works is ready to respond to two major storms expected to begin hammering the region Thursday.

The heaviest rain is forecasted to fall Saturday as remnants of Typhoon Songda roll into the Pacific Northwest, bringing with it wind gusts of 30-65 mph.

Contractor to upgrade optical fiber cable spanning dog park along Northeast 18th Street

Vancouver, WA – The Dakota Memorial Off-Leash Dog Park in Pacific Community Park will be closed Oct. 22-23 so a contractor can upgrade an overhead optical fiber cable.

Wilson Construction Co., a Canby, Ore.-based contractor working for the Bonneville Power Administration, will use a helicopter to string a larger cable over the dog park just outside east Vancouver.

Residents are asked not blow, rake or sweep fallen leaves onto county roadways

Vancouver, WA – Clark County and the city of Vancouver are providing coupons that allow residents to drop off up to 5 cubic yards of leaves at no charge through Dec. 31.

Free disposal is for leaves only. Coupons can be downloaded from the county’s website, www.clark.wa.gov/public-works/leaf-disposal, and used at four locations:

More than 90 pounds of tobacco product waste collected during past five annual events

Vancouver, WA – Volunteers will gather Saturday, Oct. 22, for the sixth annual The Butt Stops Here cleanup to remove cigarette butts and other litter from parks.

Volunteer programs for Clark County and the city of Vancouver are coordinating the cleanup, which will be held in conjunction with Make a Difference Day.

Vancouver, WA – Property owners in the Washougal River watershed have 90 days to submit information challenging proposed revisions to flood insurance rate maps.

Earlier this year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency issued preliminary maps showing revisions to the 100-year floodplain, which has a 1 percent chance of flooding in any year. These revisions reflect recent engineering studies and updated information.

Project will replace failing culvert filled with dirt, other debris, near Washougal River

Vancouver, WA – Beginning next week, a short section of Northeast Borin Road will be closed to all traffic so a contractor can replace a failing culvert.

An unnamed tributary of the Washougal River flows through the culvert, which is rusty, undersized and about 85 percent filled with debris. The failing culvert will be replaced by a much larger structure to allow fish passage in a rural area northeast of Washougal.

Closure will avoid major traffic backups, delays on Northeast Andresen Road

Vancouver, WA – Sidewalk construction on Northeast 58th Street will enter a phase next week that will require temporarily closing a short section of the road for four weeks.

Northeast 58th Street will be closed from Northeast 66th Avenue east to Northeast Andresen Road from Monday, July 25, through Friday, Aug. 19.

Public can expect seamless transition following move from CASEE in Brush Prairie

Vancouver, WA – Clark County Vegetation Management has moved to new offices on the first floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.

Vegetation Management is responsible, by state law, for controlling noxious weeds. The division consists of the Clark County Weed Board’s five members, appointed by the Board of County Councilors, and 11 county employees.
