Clark County Public Works will begin work in April on annual upgrades and repairs to sidewalks and pedestrian infrastructure, to meet current ADA regulations. The project will construct and/or upgrade sidewalk curb ramps, fill in missing sidewalk portions, and install upgrades to signal and/or push-button systems at various pedestrian crossing locations. The project also includes installing detectable warning surface (DWS) in various locations. DWS is a bumpy, textured surface that provides guidance for visually impaired pedestrians.

Public Works is planning to reconfigure the intersection of Northeast Delfel Road and Northeast 179th Street. The project will move the north leg of Northeast Delfel Road to the west to align with the south leg of Northeast Delfel Road and replace the existing traffic signal with a multi-lane roundabout. The project includes: 

Beginning in April, the East Fork Lewis River will be closed to boaters, fishers and other river users for three miles downstream from the lower portion of Daybreak Regional Park (downstream/west of Northeast Daybreak Road/82nd Avenue). The closure will allow for Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership’s contractor, Tapani, Inc., to construct the Lower East Fork Lewis River Reconnection Project. 

Improvements are coming to Northwest Bliss Road/Northwest Hathaway Road/Northwest 139th Street. This spring, changes will improve safety between Northwest 11th and 21st Avenues. The changes include: 

Clark County Public Works is improving the road surface of Northwest 78th Street between Northwest Lakeshore Avenue and Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue. Crosswalk signals and ADA sidewalk ramps will also be improved as part of the project. Temporary lane closures on Northwest 78th Street begin in mid-March for the next phase of construction. Lane closures will be marked with traffic cones and flaggers, who will direct traffic and pedestrians. Travelers along Northwest 78th Street may experience delays of up to 20 minutes. 

Clark County Public Works is seeking applicants for an open volunteer park host position at Lucia Falls Regional Park. Volunteer park hosts live at their assigned park and assist with creating a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors. Host duties include (but are not limited to): 

The Parks and Nature division of Clark County Public Works is excited to announce new play equipment at Gaiser Middle School Neighborhood Park and Sifton Neighborhood Park. Last summer, the existing play equipment was removed. A contractor installed new playground equipment and fall-safe ground surfaces. The new play equipment is made from weather-resistant materials to promote long-term durability and stability. This playground replacement enhances safety and accessibility for park visitors. 

Clark County Public Works is seeking applicants for an open volunteer park host position at Captain William Clark Regional Park at Cottonwood Beach. Volunteer park hosts live at their assigned park and assist with creating a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors. This popular 75-acre site includes 3.1 miles of easy trail that runs along a dike paralleling the Columbia River and features spectacular views of Mount Hood, along with beach and water access at Cottonwood Beach, restrooms, historic interpretive elements and reservable picnic shelters.

Clark County Public Works is beginning construction to upgrade pedestrian facilities on county roads. This work is part of the road preservation program and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements project. Improvements will include upgraded sidewalk curb ramps, added detectable warning surfaces and upgrades to associated pedestrian signals and/or pushbuttons.

Construction will begin in late January and completed by the first week of June. Construction activities will occur on between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. 

Clark County Public Works is working to increase the tree canopy in the Minnehaha neighborhood via a collaborative effort of Clark Conservation District, several Public Works divisions, local partners and state agencies.
