Vancouver, WA – New rules are in effect for fireworks during the upcoming July 4 holiday. Discharge is allowed:

• North of 219th Street:     
  June 28-July 3, 9 a.m.-11 p.m.
  July 4, 9 a.m.-midnight
  Dec. 31, 6 p.m.-1 a.m.

• South of 219th Street:
  July 4, 9 a.m.-midnight
  Dec. 31, 6 p.m.-1 a.m.

The rules apply to unincorporated areas of Clark County. Residents within city limits should check with local jurisdictions for current requirements.

A fireworks use areas map that clearly shows the dividing line throughout the county is available on the Fire Marshal’s website. Residents also can enter an address to see use rules applicable to a specific location.

“All fireworks stands in unincorporated Clark County will have the map on display, so customers will know when they can discharge fireworks in different parts of the county,” said Fire Marshal Jon Dunaway.

Safety first when purchasing, discharging fireworks
If you plan to buy fireworks, the best option is to buy them locally from a stand inspected and approved by the Fire Marshal. Fireworks purchased outside the county may not be legal locally.

Fireworks will go on sale Tuesday, June 28 in the unincorporated area of Clark County, and in the town of Yacolt. 

Fireworks safety tips:

• Always have a bucket of water and water hose ready to douse any fire.
• Dispose of fireworks by soaking them in water and placing them in a metal trash can away from buildings or combustible materials.
• Assign a responsible adult to supervise all fireworks.
• Use fireworks outdoors in a clear area away from buildings, vehicles and dry vegetation.
