Vancouver, WA – The next phase in the ongoing effort to update the local Comprehensive Growth Management Plan begins today with release of a draft supplemental environmental impact statement. Anyone interested is encouraged to review the draft document and comment to the Planning Commission and Board of County Councilors. There will be multiple opportunities to comment: • During a joint public hearing Tuesday, Sept. 1 and Thursday, Sept. 3. Both sessions are scheduled for 6 p.m. on the sixth floor of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. • In writing by 4 p.m. Sept. 17. Comments received by 4 p.m. Sept. 17 will be forwarded to planning commissioners and county councilors for public deliberations on a “preferred alternative” to update the 20-year plan adopted in 2007 and now in effect. The current growth plan included a full environmental impact statement that still applies to much of the county. A supplemental statement has been drafted to examine issues not covered in 2007 but now under consideration. A final supplemental statement is expected to cover the “preferred alternative” to update the growth plan by 2016. View the draft document online. It examines alternatives ranging from little or no change in planning and zoning to substantial changes in rural, agricultural and forestry zoning districts.
